PuckmarQ Nathan About

Growing up in Anchorage, Alaska, I always wanted to be on the ice any chance I could to improve my skills. But to do so was a challenge of coordination between limited rink availability and having proper skill guidance and equipment. I worked on my skills during team practice times, but they would mainly focus on structure, team tactics, or have drills accommodating to a broad range of players. Plus, the large number of skaters on the ice led to a handful of times when I could actually work on the skill that I wanted to improve on. So, my development as a hockey player seemed stuck. Just when all hope seemed lost, I was introduced to a handful of instructors who focused on private lessons and small group training. These instructors created environments that nurtured my curiosity and love for the game. Because of this, my skill development and my passion skyrocketed, where it allowed me to have an enjoyable playing career. Now that my “skates are hung up”, I want to give back to the sport that has given so much to me and create an environment where everyone can work towards the hockey player they want to be.

Meet The Instructor

Nathan Marquardt has been a lifelong fan of hockey. He was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, where he fell in love with the sport and played his youth hockey in various AA and AAA programs there. In 2013, Nathan had the opportunity to attend Shattuck St. Mary’s and play for the 18AA (15O today) and 18AAA teams throughout his high school years until graduating in 2016. During his senior year, Nathan signed a tender agreement with the La Crosse Freeze in the NA3HL. He played there for 2 years (2016-2018), where he was named team captain during his second season. His play was noticed by colleges, where he eventually signed a letter of commit with Iowa State University to play for their ACHA D1 team. Nathan played 3 games during his freshman season in 2018 before ultimately deciding to “hang up the skates” and focus on his degree. He graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering and a double minor in Cyber Security and Data Science. Today, Nathan plays in various adult recreational leagues, where he skates as a player and a newly transitioned goalie. He looks to now share his experiences and help hockey players of all ages and backgrounds with his curiosity and passion for the game.
